Short answer
Top off the fuel and add stabilizer, run the engine to circulate it, then drain the water from the engine, bilge and livewells and pull the drain plug. Disconnect or remove the batteries, take out anything damp, cover the boat, and check the trailer tires.
Step by step
- Clean and dry the boat inside and out.
- Fill the tank, add fuel stabilizer and run the motor for a few minutes.
- Drain the bilge and livewells and pull the drain plug. Keep the plug somewhere you will remember.
- Follow your motor maker's steps for fogging and winterizing if it will sit through a freeze.
- Take the batteries home and keep them on a charger.
- Remove life jackets, towels and cushions so they do not mildew.
- Put on a cover that is tied down well enough to handle a storm.
- Check the trailer tire pressure and chock the wheels.
