What can you not keep in a storage unit?

Packing and storing · Updated October 5, 2026

Short answer

At SB Storage you cannot store gasoline, propane or anything flammable, food or anything perishable, live animals or plants, illegal items, or anything that smells or leaks. Nobody may live or sleep in a unit.

Why these rules

Fuel and chemicals are a fire risk to everyone's things. Food and plants draw rodents and bugs that spread from unit to unit. The rules protect your belongings as much as anyone's.

Things people ask about

  • Lawn mowers and small engines: fine once the fuel is drained.
  • Paint: sealed latex paint is usually fine. Solvents and thinners are not.
  • Canned food: no. Even sealed food draws pests.
